Over several years, photographer Yasutomo Ebisu and editor Rumiko Suzuki visited more than a dozen English gardens for the Japanese magazine ku:nel. This book brings together the reports they published on these visits, which began with Suzuki's desire to meet gardeners with the "green thumb" so prized in the UK. These artists tend their gardens in the spirit of their predecessors - the designers who transformed English gardens into spaces in harmony with nature, for example, or the English women who elevated gardening to a high art.
Suzuki was moved by the ability of gardens to evolve and change while retaining their timeless character, and this compilation of her work with Ebisu perfectly captures the brilliance and beauty of these otherworldly havens that have endured and will continue to endure, today and forever.
