Junya Watanabe is a protégé of Rei Kawakubo, the Japanese designer who founded Comme des Garçons.

In 1992, he launched his own line at CDG. He embodies the "techno-couture" trend, designers who juggle a highly structured form with technical and modern materials. His silhouettes are often inspired by utilitarian pieces and work clothes.
